Letting Go to Let in Others

Sometimes we find it difficult to release responsibilities or let others participate in processes. It's one thing to have a can-do attitude, but it's another to exclude others so as not to impose on them—particularly when their inclusion could serve to build bonds and make others feel like part of the team. Sometimes letting go a little also means letting in other people. This week, look for ways to include others in at least one aspect of your responsibilities you typically consider uniquely your own. Perhaps you can ask an employee to contribute an item to the weekly newsletter you usually create yourself, or maybe your child can help you prepare a meal. It's not just about sharing the workload; it's also about giving others opportunities to feel as if they contribute in ways they didn't expect.

Blue Butterfly Campaign Golf TournamentDate: August 27, 2010
Time: NA
Location: NA

Therapy in Transition is pleased to sponsor the first annual Blue Butterfly Campaign Golf Tournament, a fundraising event benefiting those who suffer from Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). The leading cause of death among children, leukemia research has shockingly low funds at its disposal. In addition to raising money for research, the Blue Butterfly Campaign provides an online resource directory for families and friends of children with cancer. Once a doctor makes such a diagnosis, they often find the journey overwhelming and difficult; as such, the campaign supports those people by collecting and categorizing the best information available under one easy-to-navigate umbrella so they can more easily locate the many wonderful organizations. The Blue Butterfly Campaign seeks to provide a gateway that includes leading childhood cancer experts, financial aid, support groups, books, counselors and much more. Therapy in Transition is thrilled to be part of this fundraising effort. You can learn more about the Blue Butterfly Campaign here.

Bulletin Board Ideas

Remember back to your childhood and the first day back to school. Your new teacher for the year spent the month of August putting together her welcoming bulletin boards for you to see and hopefully build excitement about the upcoming school year. Bulletin boards are excellent tools for making learning fun! Not only do bulletin boards make the classroom look brighter, they can also serve as excellent platforms for students and teachers to work together and express their creativity.

As business professionals, can we tap into this same creative approach to get our employees excited about upcoming change and transition? I think so. Let’s take a few minutes to see how ideas that teachers embrace can easily be translated into a professional work environment.
