Intuitive A-HA Moments
By Sheri Fisher ~ 11/30/2009
People ask me how long I've been a life coach, and the best and most honest answer I can come up with is "I've been coaching people all of my life, and professionally for the past three years."
As far back as I can remember I have been able to really be with people, not only listening to them with my ears but with my heart while tapping into their emotional energy. It wasn't until about eight years ago that I found out the intuitive and empathic impulses I receive are here to guide me through everything I do in my life and are at the core of helping people through my work.
At the same time, I didn't realize other people may not tap into this energy as much as I do. This realization came when I was in a serious discussion with my boyfriend at the time. He was having a hard time expressing how he felt.
Feeling frustrated at our stalemate, I said, "I sense you feel this way...", and I explained his thoughts and emotions better than he could have himself.
He looked at me, stunned, and said, "How did you do that?"
"You don't do that?" I asked. "You don't know how other people feel?"
"No, I don't," he said.
And we both sat there with his emotions in the room and my new wonderment and curiosity about how I could tap in and feel other people's feelings.
After making that realization, it made perfect sense why I studied marketing and public relations in college 20 some-odd years ago. Isn't marketing a great (mainstream) way to use my gifts of understanding people to create and sell products and services?
Plus, in the selling process one of the best ways to connect with someone is to listen and truly understand them. I found that easily connecting with people was another advantage of being an empathic person. It helped me tap into and understand how someone was feeling so I could help them see where their gap was and figure out how to fill it.
So when I was introduced to Tarot cards (which at first I thought were some kind of dark magical tool), something clicked. The cards became a way for me to unlock my intuitive voice. Being a fairly left-brained, analytical person, I couldn't make sense of how Tarot and intuition worked—but I know that it does. I've seen it time and time again. The day I realized I was intuitive was a defining moment for me. It made sense why my high school friend wouldn't watch movies with me, because I accurately predicted what would happen (and ruined the movie for her). It made sense why I could pick up on other people's energy and KNOW what they were feeling. So many things suddenly made sense" a BIG A-HA moment for me!
In the intuition classes I teach I ask students (on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 as the highest) how intuitive they feel they are. In the initial sessions, the answers range from 1 to 4-ish. As we continue to meet, that number begins to rise steadily.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how intuitive do you feel you are? What are some of your biggest A-HA moments?
