A Fork in the Road

Every day we face hundreds of decisions, everything from what to wear to should you change jobs.

I have a clear memory of sitting on the couch talking to my dad when I was about 10 years old. I was frustrated because I was tired of having to make so many decisions. I’m not sure what earth-shattering decisions I had at 10 years old, but it seemed important at the time. My mind would get stuck on the fear, “What if I make the WRONG decision?”

Have you ever felt that way when you faced a fork in the road?

For most of my life, when I faced decisions I relied on what logically made sense and didn’t tune into how I intuitively felt about something. As I began to open up to my intuitive voice, I began to open up and trust this internal source of direction.

At first I would battle between the two (logic vs. intuition), especially if something seemed completely logical but did not feel right. As I’ve developed my intuitive voice, however, I can tune in much easier and feel more confident relying on this internal source of direction.

When making an important decision before, I would pull out a spreadsheet, calculator or a list of pros and cons. Now I’m more inclined to pull out my tarot cards, meditate and write in my journal to help me gain clarity.

For example, when I was asked to be an expert on this site I read all of the materials, looked at my calendar and was concerned about adding more commitments to my already busy schedule (a very logical analysis).

As I shuffled my tarot cards, I concentrated on the new opportunity being presented to me. I selected three tarot cards that clearly confirmed that participating with the Therapy in Transitions site would be a great way to move forward with my career and personal development. And so I did…

When you come to a fork in the road and need to make a decision, what resources do you have to help you determine your best path?
