"This we know, the Earth does not belong to us, man belongs to the Earth, this we know. What ever befalls the earth, befalls the sons and daughters of the earth. Man did not weave the web of life; he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web he does to himself." ~ Chief Seattle.

This quote makes me reflect on how connected I have always felt to Mother Earth: how I relate to the old ways even though I own an IPod, surf the Web, drive a fossil fuel car, etc. I still feel a deep connection to the earth. I still hear her whisper to me in the wind and through her creatures.

It is amazing to me still that the vast majority have not a clue of how they are connected to Mother Earth and the impact they wrought on her and themselves: in this day of consumerism and thinking the earth is a resource to be pillaged and/or used to our will. I would like us all to step back for just a moment and look at our connection to the earth and how we can shift how we do a few things every day to make a difference, therefore making a difference for the next seven generations.

I had an opportunity to speak with someone about this very topic this morning. The outcome of the conversation was they feel very connected to the earth and her creature. And I do know this to be true about this person, that he doesn't feel we (all of us) have contributed to the problems that face us today in terms of climate changes specifically.

I would like you to take a moment and ponder for yourselves if you feel a connection or disconnection to Mother Earth, Nature and so forth. The next thing I would like you to ponder is if you think/believe that we (the people of earth) have contributed to the decline or degradation of the earth? Do you think she (earth) has the ability to recover “gracefully”? Does she even need to recover gracefully? Do you think you have pulled on any of the web strings? How (if at all) do we fix our relationship to those strings?

This all started at dawn talking with a friend and thinking.
