How do I know I need a Basic Business Plan?
One question: Are you in business or thinking of starting a business?
Then a Basic Business Plan will allow you to notice what strengths your business has and in what areas of growth you need to expand and gain clarity—all the while allowing you to build a road map to success. Some believe having a business plan of any kind is necessary when starting a business. We disagree. Karen Kleinwort, Therapy in Transition’s founder and Small Business Expert, will guide you through eight weeks of completing the key pieces of a basic business plan. You will receive support every step of the way, and at the end of it all you will have completed a Basic Business Plan to which you can refer as you meet milestones and goals along the way to your success.
Where do I take the course?
In the comfort of your home, office or on your mobile phone through a secure, online learning environment. This is a work-at-your-own-pace course. The eCourse outline will be established so you can complete a Basic Business Strategy Plan by the end of the twelve-week period.
When does the eCourse begin?
It all begins the first Wednesday of each month and runs for twelve weeks.
Remember, a business plan plays more roles than just to get your business funding. It will help you identify areas of growth; it will outline the milestones you need to meet and by when to ensure you are moving forward and not standing still in business; and finally, it will allow you to take your own business seriously so others will too!

The following is an outline of what the 12 weeks will cover:
- Week 1 & 2 - Basic Business Assessment. You will complete the three elements that are part of a basic business assessment. There will be sample business plans for your reference and review over the eight weeks that act as a guide as we move forward, covering basic language, terms, guidelines and roles a business plan plays in a business's life.
- Week 3 & 4 - Products & Services. This week will focus on supporting you in completing the section of your plan focusing on the products and services you currently offer clients/customers while identifying potentially new complementary products or services.
- Weeks 5 & 6 - Market Analysis, Strategy & Summary. You will focus on completing a basic market analysis of your business and outlining your marketing strategy. You will identify in which areas you are currently expending your resources, becoming conscious if you are missing out on opportunities and where you may be spinning your wheels with your marketing efforts.
- Week 7 - Management & Executive Summaries. During this fifth week you will focus on the strengths and experience of your business management. You will be able to identify if there are "holes" in the areas of expertise you may need to achieve success and how you might best fill these requirements. You will also complete the executive and company summaries this week.
- Weeks 8 & 9 - Financial Planning. These two weeks will have you focusing on the financial wellness of your business. You will be taking a serious look at how you’ve invested your funds to date, outline how you plan to smartly invest your funds in the future, and summarize how all of these investments will support the overall success of your business.
- Week 10 & 11 - Pulling It All Together. During these two weeks you will pull all these pieces together into a coherent plan that will be professional in its presentation as well as complete, with all necessary information for any third party to review.
- Week 12 - Review & Comment. This last week is all about reviewing your plan, receiving comments and putting any additional effort necessary to polish the presentation of your plan.
