Perfect Moment Monday: A Wet Commencement
By Sheri Fisher ~ 6/28/2010
Each week I participate in Perfect Moment Monday, sponsored by the blog WeeblesWobblog.com. According to Weebles, "Perfect Moment Monday is about noticing a perfect moment rather than creating one. Perfect Moments can be momentous or ordinary or somewhere in between." And so, here is a Perfect Moment for this week.
It was my oldest son's last day of middle school. James's teachers had invited me to help with Field Day and stay for some end-of-the-year activities.
After helping with the Field Day events, I stood and talked to the teachers and the kids gathered on the hill just above the track. Suddenly I heard sirens and saw flashing lights. A firetruck was making its way through the middle school parking lot. It parked in the parking lot just above where the kids were congregated.
One of the teachers said, "If you don't want to get wet, you better stand over there. They like to spray the teachers."
The firemen then attached a large hose to the top of the firetruck and started spraying the water up into the air, getting the kids and teachers wet. The students screamed and ran, some avoiding the water and some moving into the stream.
After about 15 minutes they shut off the water and the kids slid down the hill (as though they were sledding) on the drenched grass.
It was a GREAT way to end not only their school year but also their middle school careers.
I had the pleasure of watching the events and managed to stay dry. Watching the kids enjoy the day's events and thinking about my oldest heading off to high school created another beautiful Perfect Moment.

What an incredibly cool memory...
that is one of the neatest ways to wrap up a school year I have ever heard about.

Knowing that you were part of a moment that your son was enjoying and would remember for years to come -- that IS a perfect moment.
And a cool one!
