Perfect Moment Monday: Part of the Plan
By Sheri Fisher ~ 7/05/2010
Each week I participate in Perfect Moment Monday, sponsored by WeeblesWobblog.com. According to Weebles, "Perfect Moment Monday is about noticing a perfect moment rather than creating one. Perfect Moments can be momentous or ordinary or somewhere in between." And so, here is a Perfect Moment for this week.
Three years ago my husband Tom took a landscaping class at a local nursery. In the class students learned about plants and landscaping techniques and even measured a space in which they would like to create a landscaping plan to practice their new skills. He carefully drafted his plan on a large piece of graph paper for our front and side yard.
We live in a very dry, desert climate. Using house water (as opposed to the relatively plentiful and cheap canal water), it was difficult (and expensive) to keep our small lawn green. The "weed" elm trees nearby soaked up most of the water before the grass even had a chance.
Over the past three years Tom has brought his paper drawing to life. As the transitions happened, there were times our front yard looked brown and barren, even at the end of spring when things should be blossoming and colorful.
If I ever had any doubts, he would reassuringly say, It's part of the plan."
The past two summers I have witnessed "the plan" coming to life—literally. Seedlings have grown taller, flowers have blossomed, trees are planted and getting taller and filling out. It's been beautiful to watch.
The other day I walked around the yard admiring the beauty of the garden, plants, trees, water feature, etc., and stopped at a patch of beautiful daisies.
I took a picture and emailed it to Tom, who was at work. In the email I told him how much I loved our front yard and how beautiful the flowers were.
He emailed back, thanking me for sending the photo, and said, "It's all part of the plan."
Knowing how much he loves working on this ongoing project and seeing it come to life, for me, was and is perfect!

Wise man
That husband of yours is a wise man, a talented man.
I think that the barren ==> lush scene is such a brilliant metaphor when talking about plans.
Beautiful flowers!
