Social Media Integration 101
By Lacy Kirkland ~ 7/27/2010
After four separate conversations in the last five days about the importance of social media to maximize your blog and website, I’ve decided we've got some talking to do here, friends.
Just yesterday I was in conversation with a local business owner, explaining the importance of integrating social media to their website. That means when you post fresh, new, juicy, wonderful blog content goodness, those following you on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn, can actually find it! Best of all, when done right you can post it to all social media outlets with one click of the button;mdash;not twelve.
Now if you're like our client earlier this week who didn't want to share her personal Facebook page with "just everyone" or our client who didn't want to "over-post to people who follow their business on Twitter and Facebook Fan Page," relax...it's okay.
I promise you don't have to unveil all your dirty little secrets, and you don't have to worry about your family posting embarrassing childhood stories or your college buddies posting drinking pictures from years you barely remember.
Let's Get Started
1. Create a Twitter account specifically for your business
2. Create a LinkedIn account for your business
3. Create a Facebook Page (This is where you create your personal profile if you don't already have one. You must have one of these in order to create a Fan Page.
4. Create a Facebook Fan Page (Need help? Learn How To Create A Facebook Fan Page For Your Business)
Once you've created your new page, it's important to allow Twitter access to update your Facebook Fan Page.
If you have a Wordpress website, your ability to connect your blog to social media will be a breeze. I recently found a great WordPress plugin I've been setting up our clients with called Tweely Updater. This plugin provides quick and easy setup along with posts sent directly to Twitter the moment you publish your new blog post!
Remember how I had you link your Facebook Fan Page to your Twitter account during the Fan Page setup? We did this so that every time you publish a new post on your blog, it will automatically post to Twitter and your Twitter account will pass it along to your Facebook Fan Page, too!
But wait! What about LinkedIn? You've got a few great options thanks to LinkedIn Applications Directory. To start, I suggest adding the Blog Link and Tweets applications to your LinkedIn page.
