How to Create a Facebook Fan Page for Your Business

First things first: If you read our post on Social Media Integration 101, you’ll understand why it’s so important to create separate entities for your business and personal life.

Lets get started creating your Facebook Fan Page Account!

Creating a Facebook Fan Page can generate more interest in and leads for your businessLog in to your personal Facebook account. If you don’t already have one, set one up at Facebook.com

Creating your Fan Page is quick and easy. Just click the link and away you’ll go. Facebook will provide you with the appropriate prompts specific to the nature of your business as you create your page.

There are a few essential steps in the process, as well as one thing I’d like to you to keep in mind right off the bat. If you don’t actually plan on using this page, it’s actually worse to create it and never use it than never create it to begin with. So, gauge your commitment to the importance of creating this page.

You must remember that as people search for you, your pages show up from your website to Facebook, all the way to LinkedIn and Twitter. You are constantly advertising you. That said, if your content is old, inappropriate or confusing, your prospects see it and you appear old, inappropriate and confusing. Sound like someone with whom it’s fun to do business? I didn’t think so. So, as I said before, gauge your level of commitment to this adventure. It will pay off, but you must be committed.

Now that you’re ready, use the following checklist to ensure you’ve maximized your newly created Fan Page:

  1. Add images. Photos of your logo, headshot, team, special events or other relevant images are perfect for your Fan Page. Do make sure you organize them. Make it easy for your friends to share your brand and prospects to get a feel for what you do.
    • Categorize photos with albums. Perhaps one for Events, Our Team, Volunteering, etc., as it fits your business.
    • When do you post pictures to your Fan Page, tag the people you know in those photos. This is free and easy promotion for you. Bonus: when you tag people, they show up on the person’s profile whom you’ve tagged. (Learn more about Facebook tagging.).
  2. Add business contact information to your Info tab at the top of your profile.
  3. Add a special offer, mission statement or links to your social media accounts on the left sidebar.
  4. Connect with your Social Media Network. Social Media Integration.).
  5. Sharing is caring… Remember that line? Okay, so is on the left navigation area just under the great new profile photo you created for yourself! Select friends who will lift you up, support you and feed your business—not the ones who post your drunken college pictures on your Fan Page.
  6. Add your new Fan Page to your “Favorites” on your personal profile.
  7. Create a Facebook ad. Did you know you can reach 42,000 impressions for only $6? Do the research to get great power-packed ads directed specifically to your target audience, or hire a professional to maximize the marketing for you. It’ll pay off greatly in your favor.
