The Power of Gratitude

Gratitude is a very powerful emotion, and feeling thankful for our blessings and appreciating all that’s good in our life helps us feel content and fulfilled. Gratitude, in fact, is also essential to make the law of attraction work.

When we feel grateful for something, we focus on calming and positive thoughts to create a field of positive energy around us. The law of attraction very simply states that like attracts like, which means when we focus on positive thoughts we attract positive things into our life. When stand in a place of gratitude, we are standing in positivity.

Gratitude creates a field of positive energy around youLet’s walk through a quick exercise to help make this point clearer. Take a few moments to jot down the dominant thoughts in your mind when you are feeling grateful for your blessings: four or five descriptive thoughts is enough.

In all probability you will come up with a list that looks similar to the following:

  • Happy
  • Content
  • Secure
  • Peacefully
  • Calm
  • Abundant

The more grateful you feel, the more you will be able to focus on these thoughts. This is where the law of attraction comes into play; when you focus on thoughts of happiness, peace and abundance, you set into motion a chain of events bound to bring you more happiness, peace and abundance.

For gratitude to work, however, it must be heartfelt. You must sincerely feel grateful for every blessing and every small thing that makes your life better, whether it is the fact you are healthy and blessed with a loving family or you have food to eat and clothes to wear. Gratitude means you need to focus on the silver lining in every situation. For instance, you may not be happy with the kind of work you are doing, but instead of focusing on how dissatisfied you are with the current state of your career, focus on how grateful you are for the fact you have a job that provides you with financial stability.

Gratitude doesn’t mean you have no aspirations or ambition; it simply means that while you are stopping to strive to make your life better, you should remember to feel happy about what you already have as well.

Ultimately all of us seek happiness in our lives, and gratitude helps us experience that happiness now instead of postponing it for yet another day. What’s more, it even helps us attract more happiness. So it makes little sense to spend you life whining or feeling sorry for what you don’t have, right? Living with gratitude in the simplest terms is a much better and smarter way to deal with life’s problems.

Until next time, embrace your inner wisdom.

Namaste,
Karen
