Magic Circle of Runes

Runes are an ancient magical alphabet clouded in obscurity. Many people associate them with the warrior gods of the Vikings or perhaps even with their misuse during the time of Hitler. For me they are living beings, keys to working with the Wyrd. Only humans have created meaningful signs with which to communicate, and the invention of writing is truly an act of great creativity.

My circle of runes

Many individuals purchase their runes ready-made, perhaps etched on pretty stones or pressed into clay or some other material and then baked. It is quite rewarding to make your own runes. The apple tree called to me. I cut one of her branches, lovingly offering up a token—a sacrifice of appreciation. I left it at her base. I cut the branch into rounds and later marked them with the rune staves. I keep them wrapped in a rabbit pelt, lovingly protected. They are powerful. They speak to me. They bring back the wisdom of the ancient times, wisdom stored in the ice and now being released as the ice is melting. What else can we learn from the Great Mother as she creates changes in the climate globally to bring us back into balance?

My magic circle of runes contains the 24 runes of the Elder Futhurk as well as the additional eight of the Anglo-Northumbrian row, plus the 33rd one called Gar.

If you remain very still and quiet, perhaps you too can hear the runes as they whisper their secrets.

Beautiful absolutely beautiful. The picture definitely speaks to me about remembering to stay quiet and listen while the world circles around me picking up the messages coming through all the different channels available.
